  1. I pre-ordered one of the new Nikon D800’s on the Amazon.com website on the “Release Date” of February 7, 2012. Unfortunately, I received a very disturbing e-mail message from Amazon’s Customer Service Department early this morning that stated that the “Estimated Arrival Date for the Nikon D800 is now January 4, 2013 – January 8, 2013”! Can this possibly be true… is Nikon having some kind of serious production and/or delivery problems with the new D800? I certainly hope not… I was really looking forward to receiving one of the new D800’s for my birthday next month! Does anyone have any additional information about this “possible delivery delay” for the new Nikon D800?

    • Tom, the email appears to have been an error. There is no indication from Nikon of any delay, and it seems email listing January delivery dates went out to everyone who pre-ordered the D800 at Amazon.

  2. will demand increase or decrease once the d800 is released? i’m thinking of waiting till june, but i want to know i’ll be able to get it then!

    • As soon as the D800 is released there will be a stream of reviews published. There will be a lot more publicity and will probably drive demand even higher. Many people wait to buy until they read a hands-on review from a trusted source. It is hard to believe that Nikon’s production of 30,000 D800 cameras a month will satisfy the initial demand and it could be a long time before there are cameras available in sufficient numbers to find it “in stock.” I expect that people ordering the camera after the release to have wait 2-3 months if not longer. A similar situation happened when the D7000 was released, it was several months before the waiting lists were clear but depended on the dealer. Average wait time was about 2 months.

      • thank you for your quick response. i pre-ordered mine from B&H today. they estimate march 22 as the ship date. i’m in no hurry, as i’m still earning the funds :0 i’m very excited!!!!
