Updated Nikon Lens Distortion Correction Database for D800, D4, D7000 and more

Nikon Lens Firmware Update

Nikon released an updated version of the Distortion Control Data to include corrections for the latest lens releases. The new version 1.006 lens firmware can be applied to several Nikon cameras released in the past few years. Models able to use the new lens data include the Nikon D800, D800E, D4, D7000, D5100, D5000, D3200, D3100 and D90.

The Lens correction database corrects barrel and pincushion distorion when used with select Nikon NIKKOR lenses, including the most recent lens releases like the DX 18-300mm VR, 24-85mm VR and 28mm f1/8G. Nikon camera owners can update the camera firmware by using provided Windows and Macintosh update utilities or by visiting a Nikon-authorized service representative.

You can view the current version of Lens correction data installed on your camera under the setup menu option titled Firmware Version. The version is preceded by the letter L to indicate Lens firmware.

Credit goes to Thom Hogan for providing information about the updated lens correction data.
